Education, Training & Certification

The training and other requirements to practice as a defense attorney are as follows:

Education: Like all lawyers & defense attorneys, first obtain a bachelor’s degree and then a law degree. The two degrees usually last a total of seven years.


Licensing:defense attorneys must passbar exam in state in which they wish to practice.


Certification: Some attorneys have received board certification from National Board for Legal Specialty Certification (NBLSC). NBLSC is a nonprofit organization accredited by American Bar Association to provide board certification to attorneys and is an outcome of National Board of Trial Advocacy.
